Target implements multi-year turnaround strategy and beauty expansion
Target is implementing a multi-year strategic turnaround led by CEO Michael Fiddelke, focusing on merchandising authority, technology acceleration, and enhanced guest experiences. The company's stock has seen a significant year-to-date increase of approximately 70%, though it remains down from its five-year peak.
As part of its capital investment, Target is spending roughly $5 billion this year on store transformations, including over 130 remodels and more than 30 new store openings. This initiative aims to create more open layouts and expanded grocery and fresh food sections.
Additionally, Target is expanding its presence in the prestige beauty market with the launch of 'Target Beauty Studio' on September 10. The concept will debut in more than 600 stores and online, featuring over 1,600 products from 90 brands, many of which are new to the retailer. The rollout includes dedicated beauty advisers and product testing stations to mimic specialty beauty retailers.
