Target‑Pokémon merch launch sparks scalper frenzy in US stores
A limited‑edition partnership between Target and the Pokémon brand began on May 3, 2026, offering more than 100 items such as clothing, accessories, food products and in‑game rewards for Pokémon GO. The collection was sold in all Target locations across the United States and online.
The high demand quickly attracted scalpers who bought the merchandise in bulk, emptying shelves and posting items for resale at steep mark‑ups. Videos and social‑media posts showed long lines, aggressive shoppers and empty displays. Items like a Pokémon jacket, a themed keyboard and even Pop‑Tarts were reported being sold online for up to ten times their original price, and some displays were stolen from stores.
Customers described the experience as chaotic, with many leaving empty‑handed after the stock was cleared within hours of the launch.
