Tarija establishes transitional public transport tariffs
The Autonomous Municipal Government of Tarija has established new transitional public transport tariffs following negotiations between transport operators, social organizations, and municipal authorities. The agreement, which allowed urban transport services to resume operations on Saturday, sets a general fare of Bs 3.50 for buses.
To protect different demographics, the city implemented a tiered pricing structure: Bs 2.50 for senior citizens, Bs 2.00 for university students, and Bs 1.50 for both primary and secondary school students. People with disabilities will travel for free. Additionally, the fare for taxi trufis remains frozen at Bs 3.00.
Mayor Johnny Torres Terzo noted that these rates are provisional while the municipality conducts a technical study to determine a permanent tariff. The negotiations were prompted by rising operational costs for drivers, including increased prices for diesel, oil, tires, and batteries. The current rate in Tarija remains among the lowest in the country compared to cities like Potosí and Sucre.
