Tarija Government agrees to food basket deliveries for elderly

The Tarija Departmental Government and elderly leadership have reached an agreement to provide three food baskets to senior citizens during the 2026 fiscal year. Each basket will have a value of Bs 161, an increase from the previous Bs 150.

Juana Marbel Castro Zuruguay, the Departmental Secretary of Human and Social Development, stated that the agreement followed meetings with representatives from the eight municipalities. The procurement process is scheduled to begin next week through the State Contracting System (SICOES).

Separately, the Departmental Assembly is reviewing a legislative project that aims to expand this benefit significantly. If approved, the law would progressively increase the assistance to a minimum of eight food baskets per year, with implementation planned to begin in 2027.
