Tarija implements free and simplified vehicle registration process
The Tarija Mayor's Office has announced a new decree to simplify and subsidize the process of changing vehicle registration (radicatoria) within the municipality. Under Decree No. 105/2026, Mayor Johnny Torres aims to reduce bureaucracy and ensure that taxes from vehicles circulating in the city are paid to the local municipality rather than other regions.
To facilitate the transition, the municipal government has reduced the requirements to just three items: a photocopy of the owner's ID, a photocopy of the vehicle's identification (SOAT or RUAT), and the signed transfer document. In cases where a formal transfer document is unavailable, owners may use a sworn declaration form to confirm ownership.
The service, which previously cost 30 bolivianos, will be free of charge for all residents from now until December 31, 2026. The initiative is intended to assist citizens who have previously sold vehicles but remain listed as tax debtors, as well as those who purchased vehicles in other departments and faced difficulties locating original owners for notarized documentation.
