Tariq Fazal Chaudhry calls for constitutional reform of Islamabad governance
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has called for the national debate regarding new provinces and administrative units to be resolved through constitutional means and public consultation. Speaking at the Islamabad Governance and Provincial Status Convention organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Chaudhry argued that Islamabad requires a more empowered and representative governance model.
He noted that current administration of the capital is fragmented across multiple federal institutions, leading to deficiencies in infrastructure, water supply, and rural development. He proposed a governance model that is elected, financially viable, and institutionally stable, while maintaining federal responsibility for national security and law and order.
Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry supported the call for meaningful public input in determining the capital's governance. He emphasized the need for practical reforms in service delivery, including the recruitment of 10,000 police personnel, expansion of the Safe City system, and improvements to water reservoirs and traffic corridors.
