Turkish actors Münir Canar and Gülsen Tuncer pass away at 81
The Turkish arts community is mourning the loss of two prominent figures in theatre, cinema, and television, Münir Canar and Gülsen Tuncer, both of whom passed away at the age of 81.
Münir Canar, a veteran actor and director, was a long-time member of the State Theatres. He was widely recognized for his roles in popular productions such as ‘Kaynanalar’, where he played Katip Kerim, as well as ‘Eyyvah Eyvah’ and ‘Oflu Hoca’nın Şifresi 2’. His death was confirmed by the State Theatres General Directorate and the Film-San Foundation.
Gülsen Tuncer was also a highly respected actress, known to many for her role as Arsen Ziyagil in the series ‘Aşk-ı Memnu’. Beyond acting, Tuncer had a diverse career as a voice artist, composer, and academic. She had been battling stage 4 brain cancer prior to her passing. Her extensive body of work included nearly 80 films and numerous television series such as ‘Çalıkuşu’ and ‘Fazilet Hanım ve Kızları’. Her death was announced by the Film-San Foundation and the Republic Women's Association.
