Tarık Akan to be commemorated on 10th anniversary of death

Turkish cinema actor Tarık Akan will be commemorated on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of his death. The memorial events will take place at several locations in Bakırköy.

Ceremonies will begin at the Özel Taş Primary and Middle School, which Akan founded in 1991. The program at the school will feature excerpts from his graduation speeches and include remarks from his daughter, Özlem Üregül, school principal Dr. Burcu Aybat, and alumnus Anıl Ilgaz.

A second ceremony will be held at the Bakırköy Cemetery, where family, friends, and representatives from the Nazım Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation will gather to honor him with red carnations. Additionally, a special program organized by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Department and Bakırköy Municipality will be held at Bakırköy Square from 19:00 to 21:00, featuring video presentations, music performances, and tributes to his life and artistic career.
