Tarn heatwaves impact wildlife and hunting plans

Heatwaves in the Tarn region of France have impacted local wildlife and hunting activities. While David Eymar, director of the Tarn Hunting Federation, reported no high mortality rates, the extreme temperatures have affected animal development. High heat has complicated nursing for some females, leading to weaker offspring with reduced survival chances, specifically noted in deer and roe deer.

Additionally, the heat has disrupted wild boar regulation. Hunting efforts were limited because dogs cannot hunt effectively in extreme temperatures. While early corn harvests due to drought mitigated some crop damage, experts warn that potential future rainfall could lead to increased damage as wild boars seek to forage in the soil once again.
