Tarnowskie Góry celebrates 500th anniversary with Gwarki 2026 festival
Tarnowskie Góry is celebrating its 500th anniversary with the Gwarki 2026 festival, scheduled from September 10 to 13. The festivities honor the city's deep mining roots and historical development since 1526, when mining freedom privileges were granted.
The celebration includes a diverse artistic program featuring performers such as Dżem, Young Leosia, and the Silesian Philharmonic. Key events include the traditional Gwarki Parade on September 13, which features figures representing the city's mining history and local heritage, and a fireworks display to conclude the festivities.
In preparation for the jubilee, the Tarnowskie Góry City Council held a ceremonial session on September 9. During this session, local officials and representatives from the Tarnogórski County signed a declaration to commemorate the milestone. The session also featured lectures on the city's history by professors Ryszard Kaczmarek and Jerzy Sperka.
