TAROM receives first Boeing 737 MAX for fleet renewal

Romanian flag carrier TAROM has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s fleet modernization and restructuring program. The aircraft arrived in Bucharest on September 12 and is the first of four Boeing 737 MAX aircraft scheduled to join the fleet through 2027.

The acquisition is being managed through leasing arrangements, with two aircraft supplied by CDB Aviation. A second aircraft is expected to arrive by the end of September, with the final two slated for delivery in 2027. TAROM intends to deploy the new 737-8 on routes to major European capitals.

According to Boeing, the 737-8 offers improved operational efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 20% compared to the aircraft it replaces, while also reducing the noise footprint by about 50%. The aircraft is powered by CFM International LEAP-1B engines.

In a symbolic gesture, the first aircraft has been named after Mircea Lucescu, a prominent Romanian football manager.
