TAROM to end Belgrade service and suspend Rome flights

Romanian flag carrier TAROM is implementing several route changes as part of its ongoing state-backed restructuring programme. The airline will permanently discontinue its Bucharest-Belgrade service in late October, ending sixteen years of operations. While the route saw passenger growth recently, that growth was driven by Air Serbia, with whom TAROM maintains a codeshare agreement.

Additionally, TAROM will suspend its flights to Rome Fiumicino for the winter season due to profitability concerns. The final flight to Rome this year is scheduled for October 24, with service expected to resume on March 28, 2027. The airline noted that winter passenger loads are currently insufficient to reach a commercial break-even point on this route.

These adjustments follow a restructuring plan approved by the European Commission, which includes limiting the carrier's network and fleet size to manage substantial losses and debt. TAROM reported a loss of 37 million euros in 2025 and carries approximately 176.9 million euros in debt.
