Taron Egerton reveals unscripted kiss with Tom Hardy in ‘Legend’

Actor Taron Egerton has revealed that an unscripted moment occurred during the filming of the 2015 crime drama ‘Legend’. Speaking on the ‘Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard’ podcast, Egerton shared that he improvised a kiss with co-star Tom Hardy.

In the film, which depicts the lives of the Kray twins, Egerton played Edward ‘Mad Teddy’ Smith, the lover of Ronnie Kray (played by Hardy). Egerton described a scene where Hardy’s character returns to a car after a murder, at which point Egerton grabbed Hardy’s face and kissed him. The moment was not in the original script but was part of an effort to lean into the character's relationship and subvert masculine stereotypes.

Despite the improvisation, the kiss was ultimately excluded from the final version of the film. Egerton also noted that director Brian Helgeland encouraged experimentation and improvisation on set, which helped him feel comfortable working alongside Hardy.
