Spanish towns expand waste collection and launch clean‑up drives

The Tarragona City Council will start a door‑to‑door green‑waste collection service in the Savinosa, Cala Romana and Boscos neighbourhoods, using reusable one‑cubic‑metre big‑bags. Councilor Sonia Orts said the aim is to "improve the management of vegetal waste, avoid street dumping and improve the city's image".

Torredembarra’s Clean‑and‑Residues Department will boost waste collection from 15 June to 15 September, adding daily organic pick‑ups and extending glass collection throughout the municipality.

In Las Rozas, municipal officials are installing brown bins for organic kitchen waste in the Centro and Las Matas districts as part of a circular‑economy plan.

Volunteer clean‑up actions are taking place in several locations under the Proyecto Libera initiative. In Algeciras, scouts and local officials cleared beach debris, with deputy mayor Javier Vázquez noting that "actions like this show environmental protection is a shared responsibility". Similar clean‑ups were organised by the Red Cross in Ciudad Real, Valdepeñas, the Vicario reservoir and other sites, removing hundreds of items of litter and recording data for scientific analysis.

The Consorci de Residus Ribera i Valldigna also took part in the Agroguadassuar agricultural fair, offering environmental‑education activities and promoting proper waste segregation.
