Tarragona and Sevilla report divergent social trends
In Tarragona, the number of euthanasia requests and procedures decreased in 2025 compared to the previous year. According to a report by the Comissió de Garantia i Avaluació, the province recorded 26 requests and five completed cases. This trend contrasts with the broader Catalonia region, which saw a 39% increase in requests (499 total) and a 64% increase in completed procedures (233 total) since the law's inception in 2021.
The report notes that euthanasia application is not geographically uniform, suggesting that sociocultural differences and professional availability may influence these figures.
Separately, in Sevilla, personal insolvency cases rose by nearly 25% during the first half of 2026. Data from the Colegio de Registradores shows 954 individuals entered bankruptcy proceedings between January and June, up from 765 during the same period in the previous year. This increase in Sevilla exceeds both the Andalusian and national averages.
