Tarragona completes first phase of municipal mortuary renovation
The municipal mortuary in Tarragona has completed the first phase of a comprehensive renovation project. This initial stage, costing over one million euros, focused on improving family reception areas, administrative spaces, and staff work zones. Improvements include the installation of solar panels, climate control, and adapted restroom facilities.
The project is part of a larger 3.6 million euro renovation plan intended to modernize the facility and support the creation of the first public, secular cemetery. The second phase, scheduled to begin early next year, will involve constructing an annex building featuring a new ceremony hall and a new crematorium. This expansion is expected to increase daily incineration capacity from five to 12. A final phase will include the development of a cafeteria and restaurant, with full completion projected for 2028.
