Tarragona Deploys Drones to Patrol Rocky Beaches After Three Minors Die

Following the deaths of three children on 19 June at the Arrabassada beach, Tarragona’s municipal government ordered the urban police to begin using drones to monitor the city’s rocky coastal areas. The drones, operating in coordination with the Beach Surveillance Unit, will focus on hazardous points such as Fortí de la Reina, the Savinosa preventative area and the rocks between the Miracle and Arrabassada beaches, while retaining the ability to cover the entire shoreline. The aim is to expand surveillance reach, detect risky behaviour such as illegal rock‑jumping, and enable quicker responses to safeguard bathers and other beach users. City officials also plan to increase education efforts aimed at young people about the dangers of jumping from rocks.

The initiative reflects a broader effort by local authorities to improve public safety on the coast after the tragedy sparked community concern.
