Tarragona Film Festival showcases independent cinema

The IDEAS. Tarragona Film Festival has completed a nine-week run, showcasing 45 recent independent film titles in their original versions with subtitles. Founded by Juan M. Mallafré, the festival aims to address a lack of audiovisual literacy among local students and utilize cultural venues that typically remain underused during the summer months.

The project is designed as a precursor to a more ambitious goal: transforming Tarragona into an international hub for various global film festivals. Rather than following a traditional red-carpet format, the festival operates as a cineclub, encouraging social debate and audience participation following each screening.
