Tarragona launches 39 solar sites to build 1,276 affordable homes
The Generalitat de Catalunya has approved at least 39 solar sites in the second call of the public solar reserve, enabling the construction of 1,276 protected rental homes across the Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre. A related filing lists 43 sites with capacity for 1,521 homes, showing the broader scope of the initiative.
Overall, 310 solar proposals have been received from 126 Catalan municipalities, enough to build 11,065 protected dwellings under the regional Plan 50,000, which aims to expand the public housing stock. About 62 % of the sites (192) will be managed by the Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition to find promoters, while the remaining 38 % already have promoters in place. Seventeen public and private promoters will develop projects on 55 of the sites.
The housing minister highlighted that “currently we concentrate 60 % of the protected‑housing construction taking place in Spain” and affirmed the government’s intention to run annual calls to register more solar sites for affordable housing.
