Tarragona meets expenditure rule and reduces debt in 2025

The Tarragona City Council has met the expenditure rule for the 2025 fiscal year, albeit with a very narrow margin of 0.1%. According to a report from the Department of Municipal Intervention, the corporation's computable expenditure reached 183.72 million euros, just 176,983 euros below the permitted limit of 183.897 million euros.

In addition to meeting expenditure limits, the city has significantly improved its debt position. Finance Councilor Isabel Mascaró reported that the city's live debt was reduced to 129.39 million euros in 2025, bringing the debt-to-current-income ratio to 55.41%. This represents a 30-point decrease from 2022, when the ratio stood at 85.46%, exceeding the legal limit of 75%.

The municipal accounts also show a positive budgetary stability result, with a financing capacity of 22.6 million euros and a treasury surplus of 23.43 million euros. Autonomous municipal bodies, including Tarragona Esports, Tarragona Turisme, and IMSST, all concluded the period with positive results.
