Tarragona political landscape remains consistent ahead of 2027 elections
Reflecting on two decades of local politics in Tarragona, the upcoming May 2027 municipal elections are framed by recurring urban and political themes. Since the 2007 elections, which saw Josep Fèlix Ballesteros (PSC) defeat Joan Aregio (CiU) and Alejandro Fernández (PP), the city has undergone significant shifts in leadership, party alliances, and campaign methods.
Despite changes in political cycles and social media influence, certain local issues remain persistent. The future of the Bank of Spain building and the POUM (Urban Master Plan) continue to be central topics in the political discourse, mirroring the debates that existed twenty years ago.
