Tarragona rolls out third 'You Buy, We Cook' fresh‑fish promotion

The city of Tarragona launched the third edition of the "You Buy, We Cook" campaign, offering free‑price fish tastings at the Mercat Central and, for the first time, the Mercat de Torreforta. From August through September, every Friday and Saturday, chef Txaber Allué (known as "El Cocinero Fiel") prepares up to fourteen varieties of locally sourced fish for a symbolic €1 fee, with vouchers of €5 given for purchases over €25.

The initiative is co‑financed by the European Maritime Fund (FEMPA) and supported by the Tarragona City Council, the Port Authority, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the local fishermen’s confraternity. It aims to strengthen the economic viability of Tarragona’s fish sector, following a feasibility study for a new fish processing workshop. The previous edition served more than 2,500 portions, indicating strong local and visitor interest.
