Tarragona Secures €350,000 for UNESCO Roman Wall Restoration

Tarragona city will receive a €350,000 state grant to fully restore the most deteriorated segment of its Roman wall, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The funding, approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers and transferred directly to the municipal government, covers the entire cost of works slated for 2027 on the Hort de l'Arquebisbe stretch between the Torre de l'Arquebisbe and the placeta de Sant Joan. No co‑financing is required.

The grant was announced by Josep Maria Cruset of Junts per Catalunya, who said the intervention will be permanent, addressing the risk caused by winter rains and preserving one of the oldest Roman fortifications outside Italy.
