Tarragona to conduct homeless population count

A total of 145 volunteers will participate in a nighttime count of homeless individuals in Tarragona on Tuesday, October 27. The initiative is led by the IMSST and the Tarragona Comprehensive Care Network for Homeless People.

The objective is to gather precise data to develop strategies aimed at reducing social vulnerability. For the first time, Tarragona is joining a national nighttime counting project promoted by the Spanish Ministry of Social Rights to create a joint diagnosis of homelessness across Spain.

This year, the scope of observation has been expanded. In addition to those sleeping on the streets, the count will include individuals staying in tents, caravans, cars, derelict buildings, and parking garages. The operation will be a coordinated effort involving the Guàrdia Urbana, the Civil Protection Department, the Tarragona Civil Protection Volunteers Association, the Red Cross, and Cáritas.
