Tarragona train speeds restricted due to trench deterioration
Trains departing from Tarragona station toward Barcelona are facing temporary speed restrictions, limited to 30 kilometers per hour. The slowdown occurs immediately after passing Playa del Miracle due to the advanced deterioration of a railway trench.
Recent heavy rainfall has reportedly exacerbated the condition of the rock walls. Train drivers have noted the wearing of the rock face, which lacks protective netting or systems to prevent debris from falling onto the tracks. While inspections were conducted following extreme weather events in early October, and work has reportedly begun on a protection system, infrastructure administrator Adif has not provided official confirmation regarding the situation.
This speed limitation, combined with other critical points in the Tarragona rail network, highlights the ongoing vulnerability of regional railway infrastructure to adverse weather conditions.
