Tarsus launches waste medicine collection program via pharmacies

Tarsus Municipality and the Mersin Chamber of Pharmacists 25th Region have launched a new initiative to collect unused, expired, or waste medicines from households separately from domestic waste. The program aims to prevent pharmaceutical waste from contaminating soil and water resources by ensuring it is collected and disposed of in accordance with environmental regulations.

As part of the initial phase, 34 collection units have been installed across 17 volunteer pharmacies. These locations include 15 pharmacies in the district center, one in Gülek, and one in Yenice. Residents can drop off their waste medications at these designated points.

Once collected, the waste medicine will be reported by the pharmacies and collected by authorized Tarsus Municipality personnel. The materials will then be transported to a Waste Collection Center for proper disposal according to environmental laws.
