Tarsus mudbrick houses featured in new book by Uğur Pişmanlık

Journalist and author Uğur Pişmanlık has released a new book titled ‘Tarsus'un Kerpiç Evleri’ (The Mudbrick Houses of Tarsus), published by Aratos Yayınları. The work focuses on the vanishing tradition of mudbrick architecture in Tarsus.

Drawing connections from the ancient mudbrick dwellings of Çatalhöyük to the ‘huğ’ houses and traditional mudbrick structures used in Tarsus until recent history, the book serves as a contribution to the city's collective memory. Pişmanlık expressed his intention to draw attention to these disappearing structures to encourage their preservation and potentially transform some examples into museums.
