Tartu approves EU green tech projects and discusses e-state economic impact
The Tartu City Government has approved the participation of Tartu Applied College in two European Union projects aimed at advancing green technology and skills. The first, ‘Gear4Future’ under the Horizon Europe program, focuses on supporting the automotive and mobility sectors' transition to a climate-neutral economy through specialized education. The second, ‘H2Skills’ under the Erasmus+ program, aims to develop a European hydrogen technology skills ecosystem and better align vocational education with the green transition.
The total cost for the city is 492,417 euros, with 393,933 euros in support and 98,484 euros in self-financing, which will be covered by the college's payroll fund. Additionally, the city is planning new developments on Lille Street, including a potential seven-story commercial building.
Separately, Professor Kristjan Vassil of the University of Tartu will deliver an inaugural lecture regarding Estonia's e-government success. The lecture, titled ‘How to Revitalize the Economy by Following the Success of the E-State?’, will explore how to transform digital infrastructure, data, and trust into tangible economic value to overcome the middle-income trap and foster private sector innovation.
