Taryn Asher resolves noncompete dispute with FOX 2 Detroit
Taryn Asher, a longtime anchor for FOX 2 Detroit, has reached a legal agreement regarding her noncompete provision, allowing her to seek new broadcasting employment immediately. The resolution between Asher’s attorneys and the station addresses the timing of her six-month work restriction, which previously would have prevented her from working in television until the end of the year.
While the noncompete dispute has been resolved, Asher’s broader federal lawsuit against the station remains active. The lawsuit includes allegations of sex discrimination and retaliation, claims which FOX 2 Detroit continues to deny. Asher, who has been with the station since 2007, was removed from the air in November 2025 following a series of incidents, including a 2023 hot mic moment where she was recorded using profanity toward a supervisor.
Asher’s agent, Mort Meisner, stated that the agreement is a victory that enables the veteran journalist to support her family while remaining in the Detroit market. The specific terms of the settlement regarding the noncompete clause have not been made public.
