Pramono Anung orders Jakarta area reforms and public service mandates
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has issued several directives regarding public safety, administration, and education in the capital. Following a fatal traffic accident involving an 18-year-old student at Pasar Kramat Jati, the Governor instructed the East Jakarta City Government to reorganize the area. The accident was reportedly caused by slippery road conditions due to fish trading activities, leading the Governor to call for integrated management involving Satpol PP and the Transportation Agency to ensure road safety.
Regarding administrative policies, Pramono emphasized that civil servants (ASN) involved in direct public services are prohibited from working from home (WFH) and must remain in the field to interact with citizens. This directive aligns with central government guidance.
In the education sector, the Jakarta Education Office has implemented flexible remote learning (PJJ) for both public and private schools on August 18, 2026, in observance of Indonesia's 81st Independence Day. While schools have the option to use PJJ, they must ensure learning objectives are met and maintain communication with parents. Additionally, the Governor has called for public cooperation to maintain security and order in Jakarta amidst planned demonstrations by the University of Indonesia Student Executive Body (BEM UI).
