Tasmac employees strike in Ranipet over bottle collection scheme

Tasmac employees in Ranipet district staged a strike, shutting down 76 liquor outlets following failed negotiations with management. The Federation of United Tasmac Trade Unions organized the protest to demand the scrapping of a scheme involving the collection of empty liquor bottles. Employees also called for job security and requested that Tasmac cover additional expenses if liquor is sold at maximum retail prices.

In a separate local issue in the Villupuram district, residents of Alampoondi near Gingee have raised concerns regarding two Tasmac outlets located near schools. Despite a government directive to close liquor shops near educational institutions, places of worship, and hospitals, residents claim the outlets remain open. Local community members and activists report that the proximity of the shops causes public nuisance and exposes students to intoxicated individuals during school hours.
