Tasmania awards contracts for major road resurfacing program
Tasmania has awarded three regional contracts for extensive road maintenance, resurfacing, and repair works across its state road network. The program involves 84 sites and is scheduled to run from mid-October through early autumn next year.
Roadways, a Victorian-based specialist, has secured contracts for the north-west and southern regions. Hazell Bros has been selected to manage works in the north. A significant portion of the project includes approximately 16 kilometres of work across 16 sites on the Bass Highway, spanning locations such as Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, and Elizabeth Town.
Other major areas identified for resurfacing include sections of the Midland Highway, the Brooker Highway, and various sections of the Huon, Lyell, and Gordon River highways. The primary objective of these works is asset preservation rather than increasing road capacity. Preparation for the resurfacing includes water blasting, pothole filling, and crack repair.
