Tasmania Police search for missing elderly couple

Tasmania Police have launched an urgent search for an elderly South Australian couple, Peter, 79, and Clementina, 81, who disappeared while sightseeing in north-west Tasmania.

The couple left Milabena, located approximately 25 kilometres west of Wynyard, around 2:30 pm on Tuesday, 18 August. They intended to explore the Burnie, Ulverstone, and Penguin areas before returning to relatives, but they failed to return and have not been heard from since.

Search efforts involve police search and rescue personnel, vehicles, and quad bikes. While a Westpac Rescue helicopter has been deployed, worsening weather conditions have reportedly hampered aerial operations. Police believe the couple is traveling in a silver Honda CR-V with South Australian registration plates S744ACB. They are expected to be in the vicinity of Penguin, Gawler, or Gunns Plains.

Peter is described as being of solid build, between 5’4″ and 5’6″ tall, with grey hair and glasses. He was last seen wearing a navy blue hoodie, navy blue tracksuit pants, and New Balance sneakers. Clementina is also of solid build, between 5’4″ and 5’6″ tall, with grey hair and glasses. She was last seen wearing a green sherpa-lined hoodie, blue or black pants, and black lace-up shoes.
