Tasmanian dairy farm implements robotic milking and virtual fencing

A dairy farm in Tasmania is utilizing automation technology to manage livestock and streamline daily operations. The system integrates electronic collars with robotic milking machines to automate much of the routine labor.

The virtual fencing system uses an application to define boundaries, employing sound, vibrations, and occasional low-energy electrical impulses to guide cows. This allows for more flexible movement and organization of the herd. When animals approach the milking station, the robot identifies them and determines if it is time for the next milking session.

While the technology reduces repetitive tasks, human oversight remains essential. Farm owners are still required for herd care, equipment cleaning, monitoring, and responding to technical issues reported by the devices.
