Tasos Chalkias discusses loss of home in Porto Germeno wildfire

Greek actor Tasos Chalkias has spoken out about the total destruction of his home in Porto Germeno following a devastating wildfire. Speaking on the program ‘Studio 3’, Chalkias emphasized that the loss extends far beyond physical structures, stating, “It wasn’t just walls that burned. Memories burned, 45 years of my intellectual work burned, as well as my wife’s and my children’s, and paintings I owned.”

Chalkias noted that his personal loss is part of a much larger catastrophe, as approximately 200 homes in the area were destroyed. He described the speed of the fire, noting that it took only two hours to consume Porto Germeno after spreading from the Agios Vasileios area in Boeotia. He also recounted a tragic incident involving an 87-year-old resident who refused to leave his home and perished in the flames.

Reflecting on the event, the actor criticized the state's management of such disasters and noted that residents were prevented from approaching the area with vehicles to help fight the flames due to safety restrictions. Despite the loss, Chalkias expressed his intention to rebuild his home, where he had lived for 50 years.
