Tasso+ device enables at-home testosterone testing

The Tasso+ device is gaining traction as a method for at-home testosterone testing. The quarter-sized, button-like mechanism allows for near-painless capillary blood collection from the upper arm in approximately five minutes, bypassing the need for traditional needles or professional phlebotomists.

Telemedicine providers, including Hims & Hers, Balance My Hormones, and Maximus Health, have integrated the device into their services to allow patients to monitor hormone levels from home. The technology has seen significant scale; following its 2022 FDA Class II clearance, the manufacturer reported shipping two million units in one year and four million the next.

While the device offers increased accessibility, medical experts urge caution. Professionals warn that laboratory values can be difficult to interpret without clinical context and that unguided hormone replacement therapy can lead to serious health consequences, such as suppressed sperm production and fertility issues.
