TasteAtlas ranks Peruvian jalea among top global fried dishes

The gastronomic portal TasteAtlas has released a ranking of the world's favorite fried dishes based on public ratings. The Peruvian dish 'jalea' from the Piura and Lambayeque regions secured the fourth position with a score of 4.4.

Jalea consists of lightly battered and fried fish accompanied by seafood such as octopus, squid, shrimp, and clams. It is traditionally served with fried plantain slices (chifles), Andean corn (cancha), and a refreshing salad of red onion marinated in lemon, tomato, and cilantro. The dish is particularly popular in Peru during the Lenten season due to the abundance of fresh seafood.

Other top-ranked fried foods include Belgian fries in first place, South Korean chikin in second, Indonesian batagor in third, Moroccan maakouda in fifth, Japanese katsu kare in sixth, and Italian fritto misto di pesce in seventh. Additionally, Peru's octopus chicharrón was ranked 29th with a score of 4.3.
