Tata Electronics cyber breach leaks Apple and Tesla design data

Indian electronics manufacturer Tata Electronics confirmed a cybersecurity incident after the ransomware group World Leaks posted more than 200,000 files – over 630 GB – on the dark web. The leaked archive is said to contain proprietary documents of Apple and Tesla, including component design specifications, a 52‑page Apple quality‑inspection manual for iPhone circuit boards, Tesla’s “Project Highland” drawings for a revamped Model 3, and a folder labelled “NV36 Chargeport Controller – North America” for a Model Y part. The dump also includes years of internal emails, event logs and passport copies of employees, some of whom are foreign nationals.

Tata Electronics stated that it detected the breach weeks earlier, activated its response protocols and that the incident has had no impact on its operations. The company received a ransom demand but declined to comment on negotiations. Apple is investigating the breach and is conducting a full analysis; Tesla has not responded publicly. The incident follows a prior ransomware attack on Tata’s Jaguar Land Rover subsidiary that halted production for six weeks and underscores the vulnerability of global technology supply chains when a Tier‑1 supplier is compromised.
