Reports indicate that the Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, was to be the chief guest, and university officials were worried about possible protests linked to the Cockroach Janta Party movement. The last‑minute decision left hundreds of graduating students and their families facing travel disruptions and financial losses, prompting the institute to promise a rescheduled date and case‑by‑case assistance for affected students. TISS maintains that the environment was deemed unsafe for the event and that security considerations guided the postponement.
