Tata Motors reports mixed Q1 results with rising consolidated profit

Tata Motors has reported its financial results for the first quarter (Q1) of the 2026-27 fiscal year, showing divergent performance across its business segments. The company's consolidated net profit rose by 83 percent to ₹2,556 crore, bolstered by market valuation gains from investments in Tata Capital Limited.

In the commercial vehicle sector, wholesale vehicle sales increased by 26 percent to 108,700 units. MD and CEO Girish Wagh attributed this growth to a successful product series and strong demand in key sectors. Operational revenue also saw a significant rise, increasing by 19.3 percent to ₹20,667 crore.

Conversely, the passenger vehicle segment faced challenges. While revenue grew by 9.3 percent to ₹95,799 crore, the segment saw an 80 percent drop in net profit due to a significant decline in EBITDA margins, which fell to 7.4 percent. The luxury brand JLR also reported a 9.6 percent decline in revenue, totaling £5,973 million.

Despite margin pressures, the electric vehicle (EV) segment showed strong momentum. CEO Shailesh Chandra noted that the company maintained dominance in the EV market, with sales of 34,000 electric vehicles, representing a 112 percent year-on-year increase. Additionally, the company expects final regulatory approval for the Iveco acquisition by the end of August 2026.
