Tata Sons has postponed its Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the first time in over 100 years due to a failure to meet the required quorum. The postponement occurred on Tuesday during a meeting intended to be conducted via video conferencing and audio-visual means.

Reports indicate the quorum issue stems from regulatory restrictions imposed by the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner. These restrictions prevent the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) from nominating its required joint representative, a necessity under the company’s Articles of Association which mandate a minimum of five members, including specific joint nominees.

The adjournment coincides with a period of significant leadership transition for the conglomerate. Chairman N. Chandrasekaran recently announced he will not seek another term when his current tenure concludes in February 2027. In response, Tata Trusts has established a selection committee to identify a successor. Noel Tata is expected to be a central figure in this selection process as the group prepares for the transition.
