Tatar community representatives engage in cultural and diplomatic events

Representatives of the Tatar community in Romania participated in several significant cultural and diplomatic events in August 2026.

Gelil Eserghep, President of the Union of Turkic-Muslim Tatars of Romania (UDTTMR), attended a reception aboard the Turkish Navy vessel TCG Kemalreis. The event, hosted by Turkish Ambassador Özgür Kıvanç Altan, brought together Turkish and Tatar community members from Romania, alongside political and economic figures, to strengthen traditional ties between Romania and Turkey.

Additionally, a delegation from the Democratic Tatar Union (UDT) attended the Great Kurultay in Bugac, Hungary, from August 13–16. This international gathering focuses on the history and cultural heritage of Hunnic and Turkic peoples. The participation highlights the ongoing partnership between the UDT and the Hungarian Turan Foundation, aimed at promoting cultural, educational, and historical dialogue between Tatar and Hungarian communities.
