Tateya River moss phlox replanted following herbicide damage

Approximately 5,000 moss phlox (shibazakura) plants were replanted along the Tateya River riverbed near Tendo and Yamagata cities. The restoration effort follows an incident in June where a construction company accidentally sprayed herbicide, killing roughly half of the 50,000 plants that cover the 15,000-square-meter area.

The replanting project was organized by beverage company Ito En, which has led environmental conservation activities in the area since 2010. About 70 participants, including Ito En employees and members of the public, took part in the work on the 17th. The new plants were donated by the Fuji Motosuko Resort in Yamanashi Prefecture to assist with the recovery. The replanted flowers are expected to bloom next spring.
