Tatiana Navka files EU Court challenge against sanctions, seeks €2 million compensation
Tatiana Navka, the wife of Russian Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov and a former Olympic figure‑skating champion, lodged a legal petition with the European Court of Justice to annul the European Union sanctions imposed on her in June 2022. The sanctions, introduced because of Russia’s war in Ukraine, include a travel ban to the EU and financial restrictions. Navka contends that the EU failed to state the reasons for the measures clearly, made legal and factual errors, and did not demonstrate a sufficient link between her and the alleged actions threatening Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
In the filing she also seeks more than €2 million in compensation from the Council of the European Union for material damage, reputational harm and other non‑material losses. A separate EU database shows that Yekaterina Ignatova, wife of Rostec chief Sergei Chemezov, is pursuing an identical challenge.
The EU justified the sanctions as actions “in respect of actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.” Navka was born in Soviet‑era Ukraine and now holds Russian citizenship.
