Tatjana Schilling wins multiple titles at Masters World Athletics Championships
German athlete Tatjana Schilling secured multiple titles at the Masters World Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Representing TSV Korbach, Schilling earned three gold medals and one bronze.
Her victories included the heptathlon, high jump, and 400 meters in the W55 age category. She also contributed to a bronze medal performance in the W45 4x100 meter relay. During the high jump competition, Schilling noted that a two-minute delay in arriving at the call-room resulted in a yellow card, which she credited with providing an adrenaline boost despite competing in heavy rain.
Schilling’s 400-meter victory was marked by a somber moment when the favorite, Australian athlete Janelle Delany, suffered a serious injury during the race. Delany fell approximately 300 meters into the final, with a suspected Achilles tendon rupture. Schilling expressed her sympathy for her friend and competitor, noting that the injury made it difficult to fully celebrate the win during the medal ceremony.
