High Tatras hiking safety sparks outrage after family climbs Rysy in flip-flops

Social media footage of a family hiking the technically demanding Rysy peak in the High Tatras has sparked widespread criticism regarding parental responsibility and mountain safety. The video shows a family, including small children, descending a rocky section equipped with chains while wearing highly inappropriate footwear, such as flip-flops and socks.

Observers and social media users have condemned the behavior as a “pure gamble with children's lives,” noting that the terrain requires sturdy, high-quality hiking boots to prevent injury. The Mountain Rescue Service has reinforced the importance of proper equipment, warning that incorrect footwear significantly increases the risk of ankle injuries and accidents on uneven, rocky surfaces.
