Tatras National Park implements seasonal closures and faces new safety trends
Tatranský národný park (TANAP) has announced seasonal closures for selected hiking trails, effective from November 1 until May 31. These restrictions primarily affect high-mountain environments above the treeline to protect wildlife, such as the Tatra chamois, as they conserve energy and prepare for winter.
While many high-altitude paths are restricted, certain routes remain accessible, including the ascent to Predné Solisko in the High Tatras and the yellow-marked trail from Baranec to Plačlivé in the Western Tatras. The Symbolic Cemetery near Popradské pleso also remains accessible via the yellow-marked trail until December 15.
Separately, authorities in the Polish side of the Tatra Mountains are reporting a dangerous trend involving masked tourists. These individuals reportedly violate park regulations by attempting risky climbs without proper skills or guides, subsequently sharing their exploits on social media. While rangers are working to identify violators, no formal investigations are currently underway regarding these masked individuals.
