Tatsuya Sakamoto returns to Japan national football team

Coventry City midfielder Tatsuya Sakamoto has been selected for the Japan national football team for the upcoming tour in Singapore. This marks his return to the national squad for the first time since June 2021, after a period of 1,968 days.

Sakamoto’s selection follows strong performances in the Premier League. He recently scored his first Premier League goal in a match against Sunderland, helping Coventry City secure a 3–1 victory. His performance earned him a spot in the Premier League Matchday 9 Best XI, as selected by former striker Alan Shearer.

Japan national team coach Hajime Moriyasu praised Sakamoto, noting his aggressive play style and the tactical advantage of his left-footedness as the team prepares for the upcoming World Cup cycle.
