Taulant Balla attacks Kavaja mayor over boulevard works during peak tourism

Taulant Balla, the political leader of the Socialist Party for the Tirana district, condemned Kavaja mayor Fisnik Qosja for beginning renovations on the town's main boulevard in the height of the summer tourist season. Balla argued that the removal of stone slabs and their replacement with asphalt would damage a major public investment and hurt local businesses after three years of little development.

Qosja replied that businesses had backed the project and that residents had repeatedly asked for the old slabs to be removed. He said the new asphalt meets European standards and urged Balla to focus on broader government shortcomings in Kavaja, such as the lack of a sewage network, a cadastral agency, courts and a prosecutor's office.

Both politicians exchanged accusations on social media, each presenting the works as either a threat to the local economy or a necessary upgrade for the town.
