Tauron outlines transformation strategy for Siersza Power Plant
Tauron is implementing a long-term transformation strategy for the Siersza Power Plant in Trzebini to ensure national energy security. While the facility currently operates two coal-fired fluidized bed blocks with a combined electrical capacity of 306 MW, their usage has decreased significantly, operating for only about 7,500 hours in 2023.
To transition the site, Tauron plans to introduce a new 630 MW open-cycle gas turbine (OCGT) after 2030. Additional planned investments include large-scale energy storage, photovoltaic installations, and waste-to-energy projects. These developments aim to reduce costs, accelerate the energy transition, and maintain the location as a vital energy hub for the region.
